Saratoga Springs to celebrate grand opening of skate park

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The City of Saratoga Springs is celebrating the opening of the new skate park at East Side Recreation Park on July 20. Skateboard enthusiasts and members of the public are invited to a ribbon cutting scheduled for noon. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! The Saratoga Springs Skate Park was built in 1989 and was the first municipal skate park in New York. The skate park has now been transformed into a brand new, modern, poured-in-place concrete park. "I am thrilled the oldest skate park in New York is getting a substantial upgrade that will provide years of enjoyment and fun for the skating community," said Mayor Ron Kim. The project has been in the works for over a decade, in cooperation between the city and nonprofit group ON DECK Saratoga. FLORISSANT, Mo. - Two women face felony charges after they allegedly used pepper spray on a Target employee in Florissant to steal several items. St. Louis County prosecutors have charged Kenecia Smith, 27, and Janielle Phillips, 33, with multiples felonies in the robbery. Both are also accused of speeding away from police with a child in their car after the theft. Police say Smith's 6-year-old son was with them inside the store. When approached by a Target staff members, one of the two took out pepper-spray and used it on the employee. Florissant police promptly tried to stop both women in the parking, but they took off quickly. Authorities are asking the public for help Tuesday in their search for a man who assaulted an elderly woman as she was working in her garden in the East Los Angeles area over the weekend.The victim was working in her yard in the 1000 block of Fraser Avenue around 6:15 a.m. Saturday when she was approached from behind by the suspect, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.The suspect, believed to be a man in his 30s, repeatedly punched the victim in the face before pulling down her pants and underwear, the spokesperson said. Gigi Hadid had a rough start on her trip to the Cayman Islands. She was arrested at the Owen Roberts International Airport on July 10 after marijuana was found in her luggage by customs officers. According to Cayman Marl Road, Hadid and her friend, Leah Nicole McCarthy, were both charged after officials found "ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja" in their luggage as they arrived via private plane. Both women were arrested and taken to the Prisoner Detention Center for processing and were released on bail "pending a ruling on the case by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions."On July 12, both women appeared in court and were charged. RICHMOND — A man walking on Interstate 580 died Tuesday morning after he was hit by a pickup truck, the California Highway Patrol said.The man’s name was not immediately released pending confirmation of his identity and notification of next of kin.The man was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado truck about 3:26 a.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes of I-580 near Canal Boulevard, the CHP said.He was pronounced dead at the scene.
