Community and faith leaders revealed a set of findings and new calls for action on Thursday in response to a recent string of violent incidents in Boston. Leaders have been sounding the alarm in recent weeks, with some criticizing city officials and pushing for change. Leaders have also continued to meet, focused on expressing concerns and finding solutions. Speaking this week, Rev. Kevin Peterson of the New Democracy Coalition said Boston is facing a “triangle of death” impacting its Dorchester, Mattapan and Roxbury neighborhoods, where Peterson noted eight murders over the past eight weeks. The Black community, the coalition said, remains in a state of trauma in relation to this ongoing violence. “We would be a more functional city if we could have regular engagement with law enforcement in order to address problems like this,” Peterson said. Peterson continued, warning Boston could be headed for a record-breaking year of homicides if the current rate continues. “If we’re...Passenger describes efforts to subdue man who disrupted flight to Boston

One of several passengers who helped subdue a Leominster man accused of trying to open an exit door before attacking a flight attendant recently recalled the tense moments aboard the United Airlines flight to Boston on Sunday. Jeff Neil of Exeter, NH spoke to 7NEWS on Thursday, hours after Francisco Severo Torres was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation following a court appearance. Neil said he opted to make a move to subdue Torres when “it was clear that he was not going to calm down.”Cell phone video of the incident shows Torres shouting threats before rushing toward flight attendants. Prosecutors have said Torres tried to stab a flight attendant with a broken spoon. Prosecutors said flight attendants previously became aware of issues after officials said Torres allegedly tampered with a plane door.Neil said he stepped into the plane’s aisle as the situation escalated. He said Torres backed away from him, charging at flight attendants instead.“When I ...Kevin Durant out at least three weeks after spraining ankle before Suns home debut

Kevin Durant can’t catch a break.Durant rolled his ankle in pregame warmups ahead of Phoenix’s 132-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. The Suns announced Durant sustained an ankle sprain, though they didn’t specify what grade, and said he will be reevaluated in three weeks. It’s a tough blow for the superstar scorer who only forced a trade to the Suns after Kyrie Irving’s decision to request a trade ahead of the Feb. 9 NBA trade deadline — a move Durant said blindsided him in a February podcast appearance.Durant was coming off of a 37-point effort on 12-of-17 shooting in Phoenix’s victory over Luka Doncic, Irving and the Dallas Mavericks. It seemed he was finally settling into a playing rhythm before rolling his ankle on Wednesday.“He’s out there working his tail off, getting ready for the game, and he twists his ankle,” Suns head coach Monty Williams said after the game. “So I mean, you can’t ...Norwell blanks Martha’s Vineyard, Clippers sail into semifinal

KINGSTON — Perhaps the worst kept secret in Division 4 boys hockey is that once Norwell scores once, the Clippers are an immediate threat to do it again. This recipe for success was in full effect in the top-ranked Clippers’ 5–0 victory over No. 8 Martha’s Vineyard in the state quarterfinals.Norwell (23–1–0) moves on to the semifinal where a matchup with No. 4 Grafton (22-2–0) awaits them. The Clippers reached this point a year ago, falling to eventual champion Sandwich in double overtime. Norwell coach Jim Casagrande said that the memory of that game is still with his team.“Last year stung,” Casagrande said. “It’s a new year and it’s a different opponent. We’re excited to get to this point but (the players) are done with it. They are ready to go now.”The final score was not the true story of the game, as the Clippers took nearly 28 minutes of game time before getting on the board. Much of this can be attributed to Vineyarders goaltender Zach Mathias, who stopped the onslaught...Saving by Shaving

Wide receivers on front burner of Joe Schoen’s sweeping Giants offseason plan

Publicly, Giants GM Joe Schoen has played down the team’s glaring wide receiver need at every turn.“I know people want to talk about offense and the receivers a lot, but we’re still building a team in all three phases: we’re gonna look to upgrade offensively, defensively and our special teams unit,” Schoen said Wednesday. And he’s telling the truth: the Giants don’t have a one-track mind.Sources say the team is in the market for inside linebackers, defensive linemen, corners and interior offensive linemen approaching next week’s start of free agency and April’s NFL Draft. There is even optimism, per sources, that the Giants will be able to re-sign safety and captain Julian Love. They’ve already started talking with defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence’s reps about an extension, too.But don’t be fooled: especially after paying Daniel Jones $82 million over the next two seasons, upgrading the wide receiver position is a...Jonathan Majors to star as Dennis Rodman in new movie about infamous trip to Las Vegas
