It’s obviously most famous for Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. And the best known part of that speech is King’s words expressing hope that his children “will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”In a sense, it’s understandable that one of the greatest works of oratory in American history has overshadowed the rest of the day. Everyone remembers Abraham Lincoln’s 272-word address at Gettysburg. But we don’t talk much about the preceding speech that day by the politician Edward Everett, which was almost 14,000 words long. Honestly, that is too much freedom.Nevertheless, it’s striking how much the “jobs” part of the March on Washington has dropped out of memory — because that was absolutely core to the message the marchers...

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars rookie linebacker Ventrell Miller will miss the season after rupturing his right Achilles tendon in the team’s preseason finale against Miami.Coach Doug Pederson made the announcement Monday, one day before the team has to pair its roster to 53.“He’ll be missed,” Pederson said.A fourth-round draft pick from Florida, Miller had been battling Shaq Quarterman for a backup spot behind starters Foye Oluokun and Devin Lloyd. But now Miller will spend the year rehabbing on injured reserve. It’s the third consecutive season Miller has dealt with a significant injury. He had surgery in late December for a broken bone — a Jones fracture — in his right foot that prevented him from participating at the Senior Bowl, the NFL scouting combine and Florida’s pro day.The Jaguars still chose him 121st overall, a somewhat surprising move considering they spent first- and third-round picks on inside linebackers Lloyd and Chad Muma in 2022 a...

The wins kept both teams in contention for berths in the second round of the World Cup, and they remain very much in the race to become Africa’s automatic qualifier for next summer’s Paris Olympics.“I’m still speechless,” said Cape Verde’s Will Tavares, a Rhode Island-born forward who scored 20 points in Monday’s win. “I feel like I’m in a dream right now, but the win was so big for us and our country and our families. Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is facing growing criticism after Estonian media reports revealed her husband’s business ties to Russia, which will now be discussed by a parliamentary committee. Estonian President Alar Karis — leader of the Social Democrats, the minority party in Kallas’ coalition government — said Monday that the scandal diminished Estonia’s credibility in its interaction with allies. “The business activities of Prime Minister Kaja Kallas’ family member vis-a-vis Russia have raised many questions in the media and in society and have put the spotlight on the head of the government and the values that Estonia must follow,” Karis added, warning of a credibility crisis. Last week, Estonian public broadcaster ERR found that Kallas’ husband Arvo Hallik held a stake in Stark Logistics, which has maintained operations in Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine began last February.
